Step-by-Step Planning

Climbing Boulders are ideal for beginners as well as experienced climbers:

Rounded edges and a grippy, realistic rock-like texture provide security for safer hand and foot holds.
The level of challenge increases with the size of each boulder, offering age appropriate challenges for toddlers through expert climbers.
Simple, clear routes for climbing down welcome younger and less experienced climbers.

Climbing Boulders have been engineered with the users safety in mind. That's why we have taken the time to develop Landing Zone Recommendations to ensure adequate space between boulders for both "active" and "passive" climbers to utilize our Climbing Boulders safely.

The Landing Zone of each boulder varies based on the height of the boulder and its intended users.
It is recommended that Climbing Boulders are not placed closer together than allowed by our Landing Zone. Landing Zones of different boulders may overlap.
Bouldering areas should always be physically separated from playground areas by walkways or areas of grass.
Resilient surfacing should always be applied in accordance with ASTM 1292 Surfacing Standard. Wood fiber is recommended.

Our established Landing Zone for each boulder is as follows:
Site Plan

Cliff Boulder:
8 feet (2,4m)
Mountain Boulder:
6 feet (1,8m)
Hill Boulder:
5 feet (1,54m)
Bench Boulder:
2 feet* (610mm)
Stool Boulder:
2 feet* (610mm)

*All Climbing Boulders require a minimum of 5-feet (1,54m) or their designated Landing Zone, whichever is greater, when placed near the perimeter of an area.

Climbing Boulders have been designed and built with safety in mind:

Realistic horizontal banding mimics wind-eroded stone and provides climbing advantages.
Intuitive and easy-to-scale routes are horizontal as well as vertical, making them ideal for children and beginners.
Any climbing route has the same degree of difficulty all the way to the top, so novices can't "climb into trouble."
Friendly, rounded surfaces are geometrically designed to minimize impact to ankles, knees, and elbows as climbers ascend and descend.

Testing and Durability
Climbing Boulders are constructed of the highest-quality multi-layer fiberglass composite material. Our thick polyester resin substrate and special "thermoset" outer layer with sand additive creates a realistic, rock-like texture that is extremely durable and resistant to severe weather conditions and vandalism.

Climbing Boulders are built to withstand years of use. We subjected our Climbing Boulders to harsh weathering and UV exposure tests, abrasion and drop impact testing and flammability tests, all to make sure they would withstand stuff nature had never even intended upon.

Each Climbing Boulder is backed by an outstanding 5-year Warranty.

Easy Installation

Installation is simple, quick, and inexpensive, without the need for a crane. Climbing Boulders are amazingly light for the strength they provide, making them easy to handle throughout the installation process.

Warranty Information

PLAYWORLD SYSTEMS®, INC. warrants its products to be free from defect in materials or workmanship during normal use and installation in accordance with our published specifications. PLAYWORLD SYSTEMS, INC., further warrants as follows:

Limited Lifetime Plus Warranty on steel signage posts and all stainless steel hardware, against structural failure due to defects in materials or workmanship.
Limited 10-Year Warranty on fiberglass signage against structural failure due to defects in materials or workmanship.
Limited 5-Year Warranty on all Climbing Boulders to be free from defects in materials or workmanship when installed in accordance with our published installation instructions and specifications.

SURFACING NOTE:
Resilient surfacing should always be applied in accordance with ASTM 1292 Surfacing Standard. Wood fiber is recommended. This Warranty is VOID if sand, gravel or similar material is used as the resilient surfacing material under and around Climbing Boulders.
