Risk Management Considerations

Our expertise in skate park design and flow ensures a safe, fun and challenging ride for boarders, inline skaters and BMX riders.

The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has produced a Skateboard Safety Sheet - Publication # 93. Visit their website at www.cpsc.gov.

Here are some important considerations:
Signage - An important safety element is clear signage throughout the park that offers sound advice for safe riding.  For example, signs should at least recommend that all riders wear appropriate safety equipment such as: helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards.

Supervision - If your park is providing supervision, all  employees should be trained in appropriate first aid. In order to help prevent the need for first aid, staff should be mature and assertive enough to enforce the park's rules.

Design - Park layout and flow, as well as component safety features should be carefully considered in order to maximize fun and minimize risk.  Our skilled park designers, trained by the experts from Woodward Sports Camp, can help you design a safe and challenging action park that offers an exciting experience for riders of all skill levels.

Maintenance - Establish a good routine inspection program, and follow it. Document and record inspections and maintenance issues. Close off obstacles when in need of repair. Keep the park and surrounding area free from dirt and other debris that could cause an unexpected surface for the rider. Do not allow riders to use the park when wet - allow it to dry completely before users begin riding or skating. Secure or remove any obstacles, such as trash cans, tables, benches, construction cones, etc.
